Eaton provides a well-written treatment of multivariate analysis but with the geometric rather than the algebraic approach. For those who are better at geometry than algebra this approach that involves Euclidean spaces may be easier to understand than the algebraic approach that is common in many leading texts including Anderson. I find this approach to be a little more natural. It is much like the Hilbert space approach to stochastic processes where orthogonality equates to zero correlation or independence in the Gaussian case.

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues affecting the world today. Although half of the world's population lives in urban areas, little consideration has been given to the effects that climate change will have on urban dwellers, especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Yet these regions have most of the world's urban population, including most of its largest cities. Their urban centers already face a wide variety of environmental and development challenges, including large sections of their populations living in informal settlements, often on sites at risk from extreme weather, with large deficits in provision for water, sanitation and drainage.

As noted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Fourth Assessment, these are likely to exacerbate vulnerability to climate change. Even more importantly, very little attention has been paid to the issue of adaptation, preventing the loss of lives, livelihoods and assets in urban centres as temperatures and sea levels rise and as extreme events become more frequent and more intense. Yet while the concentration of people and economic activities in towns and cities can intensify their vulnerability, this same concentration provides the opportunity to build safe housing and protective infrastructure, create resilient livelihoods and develop urban systems that reduce risks.

This volume brings together, for the first time, a wide-ranging and detailed body of information identifying and assessing risk, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in urban centers in low- and middle-income countries. Framed by an overview of the main possibilities and constraints for adaptation, the contributors examine the implications of climate change for cities in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and propose innovative agendas for adaptation. The book should be of interest to policy makers, practitioners and academics who face the challenge of addressing climate change vulnerability and adaptation in urban centers throughout the global South.

I needed to find a book that delved into the Win9x registry in the same amount of depth as this one, but this book is almost totally VB & C oriented. I bought it looking for a tools I could use within the command shell that's native to Win9x, but even though it didn't have what I was looking for, it's still a great book, but it's definitely a programmers guide, not an administrative tool. Since I got it, some friends have told me how a combo of Kix & Rexx scriptinig is actually what I'm looking for.

I still give it four stars because I can't knock it for not having what I want, because what it has is very, very good.

If you are going to program with registry, this one is your must have. There are in-depth explanations of backing up, restoring and accessing to the registry, plenty of examples in the book. The author also address the registry(key)difference between WindowsNT and Windows95, though not very thorough. Except some functions are "obsolete" (i.e. getwinflags()) and all of them are used "old fashioned" c, the codes in those examples are well tested. More over, there are two charpters are dedicated to "VB" programers and whenever possible, the author tries to show the example in both "C" and "VB". I would like to see the second version of this book explaining more about WindowsNT registry and using MFC.

This was the first "registry" book that I bought and I measure all of the others by it. If you are a programmer, this is *the bible* of registry programming as far as I am concerned. My only disappointment was the lack of a "reference" to most common registry entries. There are a number to be found, but they are scattered through-out the book and there aren't enough.
