Organic Synthesis with Enzymes in Non-Aqueous Media

Organic Synthesis with Enzymes in Non-Aqueous Media
Giacomo Carrea,Sergio Riva | 2008-04-15 00:00:00 | Wiley-VCH | 328 | Organic
Closing a gap in the literature, this comprehensive book examines and discusses different non-aqueous systems from organic solvents to ionic liquids for synthetic applications, thus opening the door to new successful methods for biocatalytic reactions. It gathers into one handy source the information otherwise widely spread throughout the literature, combining useful background information with a number of synthetic examples, including industrial scale processes for pharmaceutical and fine chemicals.

Extremely well structured, the text introduces the fundamentals of non-aqueous enzymology, before going on to new reaction media and synthetic applications using hydrolases and non-hydrolytic enzymes.

The one-stop reference for everyone working in this hot field.

Organosphophorus Chemistry (Specialist Periodical Reports) (v. 4)

Organosphophorus Chemistry (Specialist Periodical Reports) (v. 4)
S. Trippett,etc. | 1989-05-31 00:00:00 | CRC Press | 317 | Organic
Organophosphorus Chemistry provides a comprehensive annual review of the literature. Coverage includes phosphines and their chalcogenides, phosphonium salts, low coordination number phosphorus compounds, penta- and hexa-coordinated compounds, tervalent phosphorus acids, nucleotides and nucleic acids, ylides and related compounds, and phosphazenes. The series will be of value to research workers in universities, government and industrial research organisations, whose work involves the use of organophosphorus compounds. It provides a concise but comprehensive survey of a vast field of study with a wide variety of applications, enabling the reader to rapidly keep abreast of the latest developments in their specialist areas. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Advances in Physical Organic Chemistry. Volume 15

Advances in Physical Organic Chemistry. Volume 15
D. Bethell | 1978-02-11 00:00:00 | Academic Press | 352 | Organic
This is a well-established series for the publication of authoritative reviews on the methods and results of the application of quantitative physical and mathematical methods to organic chemistry. The authors are acknowledged experts in their particular fields, and the contributions give the reader an up-to-date account of different aspects of physical organic chemistry. In the pursuit of challenging problems of organic chemistry, the series encourages forward-looking reviews on a variety of topics, not all of which may as yet conform to conventional notions of the scope of the field.
Reviews
I recently completed my honors project for Dr. Tidwell at University of Toronto, and took two years worth of his organic chemistry courses... I have to say that they were the most enjoyable and understandable courses I have taken in my life, in fact I completed these courses in the top percentile of my class with very little studying on my own- I learned everything in his lectures! He wrote the authoritative book on Ketene chemistry, which all the researchers in that field use, and I used on my honors project. I think that he has a very good skill in presenting concepts in physical organic chemistry that has been honed with hard work over many years, and is also due to an obvious love of chemistry. I can't tell you about this book because I haven't read it yet, but when I can get the money (a little pricey for your average canadian graduate student...), I will hopefully complete my review.
