First thing I thought was "But look if I must search for what I need in the ancient past..." but once I had it in my hands I was literally bewildered by the contents of this little book;

the work of Christopher Foss is unexceptionable, well done, in brief, one of the best I've ever laid my eyes upon since I bought the Jane's Armour and Artillery, only in a format a little more manageable in respect to that ponderous encyclopaedia-like tome.

I bought in the past many books on the subject `tanks and AFV' but the majority of them were pretty disappointing... and very, very expensive.

In this book, instead, you can find every vehicle fully described and depicted with pretty vintage photographs, all pertinent data are reported but the bonus is that it includes a good deal of World War Two-vintage armoured fighting vehicles that were still in service or in reserve status at the time of this book's writings (1976). Moreover, since many of the vehicles covered in the book actually fought in the years immediately prior the book's publishing, there are even some interesting accounts of their real behaviour in battle.

You all know by now I'm a military history's buff and a role-playing freak and this book fits perfectly in satisfying the historian's and role-player's needs, since is very difficult to find nowadays military guides as much complete as this Jane's World Armoured Fighting Vehicles and it's pretty cheap too!

I wish I'd found a similar guide for the post nineties AFV, but it's a pity but it seems to me that's impossible, not after 9/11 and the `war on terror(tm)' as I wrote some time ago regarding the more modern Jane's Tank Recognition Guide.
